His election in 2013 marked a historic turning point, signaling a shift toward a more pastoral, humble, and globally conscious Church.
From the outset, Pope Francis distinguished himself with a simple yet powerful message: mercy, compassion, and care for the marginalized. Rejecting many of the traditional luxuries associated with his office, he chose modest living arrangements and frequently emphasized the importance of humility. His papal name itself, inspired by Saint Francis of Assisi, reflected his commitment to the poor, the environment, and a more inclusive vision of faith.
Throughout his papacy, Francis became a leading voice on some of the most pressing issues of the 21st century.
